Tāwhiri - the creative force behind the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts, Wellington Jazz Festival, Song Quest, and more - is seeking a Pou Ārahi Māori to guide and strengthen our intercultural kaupapa. E kimi ana mātou i tētehi Pou Ārahi Māori mō tō mātou Tīma Kaiārahi o Tāwhiri.
As part of our leadership team, this senior role will champion the implementation of Tāwhiri’s Intercultural Policy, build cultural capability across our organisation, and support our vision for excellent outcomes for Māori artists, audiences and kaimahi.
This is a part-time 0.2FTE (8 hours per week) role for one-year fixed-term.

Tāwhiri is a charitable trust producing world-class arts experiences in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington. With nearly four decades of festival-making behind us, our close-knit team works across artistic programming, production, marketing, philanthropy and operations.

About the Role
The Pou Ārahi Māori works alongside Tāwhiri staff providing:
- expertise and advice to Tāwhiri in the ways of tikanga
- ensures Tāwhiri’s use of te reo Māori is appropriate and accurate for the context
- supports Tāwhiri’s Māori staff
- supports Tāwhiri in its ambitions for good outcomes for Māori
- helps build the cultural consciousness of the Tāwhiri team to encounter artists, audiences and stakeholders of all cultures with mana, respect, compassion and alignment with Tāwhiri’s values.
This senior role reports to the Executive Director, with support from Tāwhiri’s Māori Board members. Hours are flexible and may vary depending on our event calendar.
What We’re Looking For
- deep knowledge of te reo Māori, tikanga and mātauranga Māori
- proven experience applying tikanga in an organisational context
- excellent communication skills
- established relationships with mana whenua in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and wider Māori networks
- experience in cultural competency, strategy and planning
- confidence using digital tools and office systems
- a passion for the arts.
