The Royal New Zealand Ballet bring one of the most visceral of tragedies to the stage in this bold and bloody re-telling of Macbeth.

Naked ambition, political power and transgression are brought to the fore in this international premiere by acclaimed choreographer Alice Topp (Aurum, Logos, High Tide). Shakespeare’s iconic characters are propelled into a shadowy world of manipulation by media, boardroom intrigue and sudden violence. As the Macbeths emerge as a dazzling new power couple, the view from the top is dizzying – and the fall is steep.

As success and adoration give way to paranoia and madness, Topp’s mesmerising movement and composer Christopher Gordon’s pounding new music, layering a full orchestral and heavy metal score with live string octet, drive Macbeth and his Lady toward their tragic fate.
