For the boundary breakers

Our line-up knows a thing or two about pushing beyond the norms. Gift The Savage Coloniser Show for a fierce, furious, and fabulously unforgiving examination of race and racism. Or continue the festive glitz and razzle dazzle into 2024 with tickets to Meow Meow’s Pandemonium which is set to be a whirlwind performance.

For the emotion seekers

Full of passion, power and forbidden love stories, the 2024 programme is a hotbed for thought-provoking experiences. Dive into emotion with Lost Lear a dark comedy by Irish Theatre maker Dan Colley, captivating choreography of Hatupatu | Kurungaituku: A Forbidden Love, the memorizing sounds of Arooj Aftab or a double-bill of moving dance for Whenua brought to the stage from The New Zealand Dance Company.

For the arts aficionados

A gift that hits all the harmonies, The King’s Singers bring their collection of songs inspired by our favourite feathered friends to the Michael Fowler Centre. While at St James Theatre Nancy Brunning’s final ode Witi’s Wāhine places wāhine, whenua and Māori wisdom centre stage.

Melody musers will love the masterful Johnny Gandelsman with J.S.Bach: Complete Cello Suites (Transcribed for Violin), or Beyond Words: NZSO a symphonic expression of solidarity and peace. Or for an Aotearoa debut see Australian didgeridoo player William Barton (Kalkadungu) join forces with world-renowned Brodsky Quartet from the UK for Barton and Brodsky.

For the visionaries

Sprinkle a little bit of festive joy to your loved ones with tickets to Soweto Gospel Choir with their show Hope, a celebration of South African sounds, songs, and anthems. Or leave them in awe with the beauty, grace, and bold acrobatics of BELLE – a performance of air that takes the senses beyond bounds. While the Jungle Book reimagined will transport them from the wilds of nature into a modern world all conveyed by outstanding choreography by Akram Khan.

For the out of the box thinkers

They’re the bold ones, the ones who seek something different and our programme is packed with events for them to be immersed in. From DJ sounds before 8am with Morning People: Warehouse Rave, to Our Own Little Mess - an audio adventure that bends reality in magical ways, and Gravity & Grace, an unmissable smart theatre production by Eleanor Bishop and Karin McCracken.

For the book worms

A perfect present for budding authors to well-versed poets and those that can’t put a book down, gift our WRITERS events to the book lovers of the world. Taking over The Embassy Theatre for opening weekend of the Festival there’s talks, tarot readings, panels, and workshops.
